What one trait do you wish more people around you displayed?
Submitted by Ross
Honesty. The ability to tell the truth, without embellishment.
What are your plans for the weekend?
1. THE DISSERTATION.
2. Mow lawn - did yesterday. Good thing since there was big rain with lots of thunder in the night.
3. THE DISSERTATION.
What was your favorite TV season finale this year?
Submitted by Kristine.
I hate season finales. I usually miss a bunch of shows and then get into them just before sweeps when the show is over for six months. I usually miss the premiers because during the hiatus, the schedule changes. I have stopped watching shows because the new time conflicts. I could also do without all the summer garbage shows. Come on - I have seen ads for: race car driving, bingo, pirates, impersonators, stupid human tricks, and some repeats of last summer's shows I didn't watch. I want good shows all year long! I'm thinking netflix may be getting some money from me soon, although I will have a 3 night a week class for the next month, so maybe I will not get the benefit out of it... I still have time to decide :) Netflix will give me options (and I did not get cable when I started my PhD as I knew it would be too much of a distraction, but movies maybe not so distracting...)
In 5 words or less, who are you?

amazing!
Are you taking a vacation this summer (or this season)? Where are you headed and who's going with you?
Vacation? I am quite certain I do not know what that is... NOTHING FUN until THE DISSERTATION is completed that is for sure!
We know you never slack off at work, but if you did, what would you do?
Peruse the Internet but not for research purposes... (sometimes "search for ____" is my job)... talk to others in their office or mine - this is how information gets exchanged so really, it is OK as long as it doesn't go on too long... This seems like what I mostly do all day, I must be really good!
What's your method for calculating a tip?
I love giving crazy values for the tip... 7.23... 16.19... 3.67...
Of course, this does create a bit of math when adding the credit card slip, but it all depends on the quality of service and the final bill total (generally ranges between "double the tax" and "20% method" then +/- some). I also take into consideration what others at the table are likely to give when there are separate bills. Oh yeah, I hardly ever pay cash - it would be rude to leave 13 cents on the table (unless really warranted), but I do not have the same issues with the credit card slip. I have also been known to leave notes on the credit card slip with suggestions for improvement or compliments for the experience.
Case in point... a couple of weeks ago at Happy Hour, a few new people showed up. Great, more the merrier. However, the point of happy hour is to eat, drink, and be merry (or just socialize for those that do not consume alcohol, and some in the group do not, but I apprecite the effort they make to come). One person just had tap water, so no bill. I gave the waitress extra because I know she got shorted by this person not ordering (and there were some other issues), but she was patient and gave good service. I can be nice like that.
What is your favorite scent?
Submitted by Erinen.
For the past week or so, I have been using herbal essences body envy shampoo. The smell is supposed to be "white nectarine and pink coral flower" - it is a very energizing scent. Normally, I smell a new shampoo before taking it home, but for some reason I did not do that this time. The first use was a pleasant surprise.
I have been on a ginger lotion kick for awhile - ginger lotion for my hands - but only at work.
Last Christmas I bought some Sarah Jessica Parker perfume. I still like this even though I wear it most days.
I have lots of scents I like. Lavender, vanilla, roses, cinnamon, citrus... lots of scents!
In honor of Vox's launch tomorrow, what's your favorite feature or aspect of Vox?
Of all my blogs, vox is the most fun! It is easy to post, fast!! no crazy loading photos on another site just to load to the blog, beautiful designs without a bunch of ugly ads on them... yeah, vox is the best :)
What's the best way to spend a rainy day?
Submitted by Vee.
Very appropriate for today as it was raining when I got up. It has probably stopped now. It does not rain that much where I live so on the rare occasions it does, I like to savor it. Lay around, watch tv, drink hot tea, wear soft warm clothes... do not attempt strenuous activity, but crafty projects are ok. This is especially good when the said rainy day is a weekend. It is harder during the week since when trapped at work the effects of the outside weather are less noticeable. Even more true now that I work in a windowless cave.
